Hi, my first real post so forgive me if this is a stupid question!

I have a canon 350d, and am thinking of getting a remote control for it. I partly want it to reduce camera shake when using a tripod, but also so I can be in some of the photos myself!
Does anyone have any recommendations on what to go for? is it best to get one which is corded or wireless?
Also, what sort of price am I looking at, and where is the best place to get one from?

Thanks, Becca.

:)

Just thought also, is it easy to focus using one of these? how exactly does that work? is it possible to use one with the automatic modes, or do I have to use it on the manual settings? thanks.

You need the RC-1 remote unit. The 350D has a "pick up" on the front, so you have to be in front of the camera for it to work. You can still use the 2 stage button press though, but doing self portraits, you just need to get the composition right first.

Not sure how much they are, but generally available. I use mine whenever I can get away without having to use the cable release.

Hi Becca, I use the Canon one regularly with either a 5D or 20d and I bought mine from www.onestop-digital.com I forget how much it was, but whatever it is well worth it.

I use it with a tripod and the remote operates the af on the camera, so no worries there, it can also be set to time delay and multiple frame or single frame also has a backlight which is handy for long exposures, hope that helps

thanks for the replies.

agger - the one you have, is it corded or wireless?

what are the pros and cons of each? i really am new to this!!

Mine is corded, but it's really cool, I love it when using a long lens on a tripod it's great and reduces shake especially if used with mirror lock up:thumbs: I use a scrunchy to hold it to the tripod leg when moving, I guess the down side is your tied to the remote wheras with a wireless your more mobile, they have downsides to I'm sure, but hopefully others will feedback on them for you

Hope that helps:)

Becca, the RC-1 is wireless infrared. The 350D has a infrared receiver on the front of the body.

I have one up going spare here as I no longer have the 350D and it doesn't work with my 30D... make me an offer I can't refuse if you want it :D
