[Just to remind all you men folk (and even the odd rare forgetful lady ;) ) that tomorrow is..

  VALENTINES DAY!  ]

[ You still have time to do something for your lady/man. Tesco is still open... You now have NO excuse

Hop to it!]

Years ago I got pestered by a girlfriend for a Valentines day gift so I bought her a Rhubarb plant ...

The following year she did the same.....

I bought her a concrete Hedgehog

Ps. I treat my wife special all year, not when the shops say so :)

i decided to boycott it this year
i was thinking about it, and i cant see whats so romantic about doing something 'romantic' on the same day as everyone else just because Hallmark say so.
Surely romance should be impulsive and should be done because you really love the other person and really want to do something for them.

I do my bit to save the planet

I refuse to contribute to the deforestation of the planet by buying overpriced and pointless tat.

I have said exactly the same to my wife this year. I told her I dont want a valentines card or anything.
We're going out for a curry with friends tomorrow night, but that's it.

I love my wife every single day of the year, why should I be forced to buy something for her on one particular day, just to 'prove' that?

I remember the days when Valentines day was a day for singles....not couples. It was a time to send an anonymous card to someone you liked, inviting them to be your valentine, etc.

That said, I'm not knocking this thread of course :) So if you like to do something extra special for your good lady (or man)....then go for it (I suppose I might was the pots tomorrow, or maybe change my socks or something) :D

Thats because in those days you were single :)

seriously, though, the anonymous sending of cards side of it is/was a good laugh.

I saw absolutely the most ridiculous thing ever last week while trying to find a decent birthday card for my son amongst the sea of red in the card shops.
A lovely card it was ... 'Happy Valentines Day Mom' ... I kid you not!
Anyone else seen them?

Same here. It's so much nicer to buy a bouquet of flowers or a box of choccies when your wife/girlfriend/partner isn't expecting anything not when the media or society tells you to. In the 14 years I've been with my wife we've "celebrated" Valentines Day once, and that was the first year we were together.

 What a bunch of romantics you are!

You don't have to buy a thing if it's that you're worried about. Why not do something romantic anyway? would it really be that much of a big deal? Sure us ladies and even you gents should be appreciated all year round, but come on! Don't dis the day peeps, lots of love to be had, not "I didn't get you anything dear because I don't believe in valentines day".

In our house Valentines day is a good excuse (like many other days all year round) to snuggle up and talk about good times, then have some fun :naughty:... You don't have to buy a thing, but at least do something special

As for the anon card thing from single times past... why don't you do such a card for your significant other? Really put some effort into making it appear to be from someone other than you. I can tell you it's nice to feel that you are attractive to someone other than your partner, it's a real nice boost to the ego  even if just for a short time. Then once she/he finds out it was you then everything will seem just as good because you went to all that trouble for him/her.

What a bunch of mardy bums

Well, I guess making my wife feel special & attractive to me every day of the year doesn't count if I don't do it on the day we're "supposed" to do it

There's nothing less romantic than doing something because it is expected of you!!!! Especially on one day of the year so the companies can make big money from overpriced cards, flowers and choccies.

 You sound like you're taking this far too seriously.

That's a good idea, and a much better way of doing things, rather than buying cards and other wasteful stuff :D
