Maybe I'm a bit grouchy because of the early hour but I've got two weddings this weekend and for the one on Sunday I asked if anyone on here would like to assist as I realise there are a lot of talented photographers on TP who would like to try wedding photography. Assisting is how I started and is a great way to learn the ropes and I also wanted to put something back to the forum by giving people the opportunity.

In the last few days I've had three people say they'll do it and pull out a day later. I realise it's a Bank Holiday weekend and there are family commitments etc and each one has to be taken on its own merit - but three times! If you're going to volunteer your services please ensure that you are available as it saves a lot of work!

I'm going to get some breakfast. :D

:bonk: aarrggghhhhhh!! Colin, add chill pill to breakfast, and some coffee.... :D

Sorry to hear that as it was a great offer. However as pretty as brides are and as handsome as grooms can be, the classic old cars at brands will be distracting me all weekend but hope both weddings go well for you, unreliable sunday assistants not withstanding

Now that IS annoying. As someone in exactly that position of wanting to shoot a wedding as a second it is disappointing. (I'm lucky I have one sorted for July)

These opportunities don't come along often and when they do they should be grabbed with both hands.

I did see your post and I'd have been more than happy (diving headlong more like) if not for the distance involved.

I hope your weekend goes well regardless.

Seems very odd when I see so many people wanting such an opportunity. very odd indeed.

Did they get scared do you think? thats why I dont do them.. the thought scares the life out of me... Maybe some people have ideas to do weddings then when push comes to shove they panic?

Maybe they're all just scared Hacker will be in RANT mode :naughty::D

Seriously though, very odd. It is an excellent opportunity.

Have you SEEN Colins avatar? THAT scares me every time!! :exit:

;)

That's just not fair mate, pulling out for illness for such like is acceptable, but the next day is not fair. Shame on the guilty parties...

Totally agree with you Colin, Don't offer your help then dissapoint later.

I am on call for work this weekend otherwise I would ahve jumped at the chance. The problem with saying yeah and then pulling out is others who may have been able to do it may have made other plans by then.

Good luck with the weddings though.,

That is really sad Colin

As others have pointed out, these opportunities don't come along that often. I hope that your disappointment will not stifle the creative juices, as I have loved looking at your wedding shots

I take it that the people that let you down had firmly committed as opposed to just expressing an interest?

Good luck with the weddings!

Cheers,

Alan

sorry to hear this colin..

please though if the opp ever arise's again ..

ask again as i for one would have loved to have done this .. but short notice this time meant i could not volenteer...

md:thumbs:

Sorry, not much help I know but even at short notice I'd love to mate but don't fancy the drive from the NE. Not sure on train costs either......but if you or anyone else are doing something a little more local, give me a shout!

I would have jumped at the chance, and was tempted but for the fact we've got friends coming round at 6 :( I was thinking though that driving that distance would have been worth it for me.
