Hi all

I bought the above a Latitude 7390......looks almost like new.

Going through the setup I reached the point where it only offers completion by creating an MS account (I think I used to have one but hated IIRC the way it seems to intrude)

There is no option to setup offline NB during the start of the process it asked to connect to the internet which I did on the WiFi.

Going back to as far as it allows I cannot see any non MS account option.???

Am I stuck creating one and does anyone know if once done can you take the PC offline in regard to the need/function of the MS account?

TIA for the insights and replies.

PS at the moment it is just sitting at the create an account step.

MS make it very hard to have only a local account which is one of the reasons I dislike Windows

A quick Google found this

Hope that helps

Thank you I don't think I saw that one.

I will have read and see what can and/or cannot be done.

PS my W10 Pro desktop that a local account configuration i.e. no MS account in usage.

PPS eventually I will have to accept W11 for my desktop when W10 reaches EoL

Edit
I tried what was advised re W11 during install and it goes onto a loop i.e. there is not option to set up a local account :( perhaps MS removed that 'wheeze' in later W11 builds  :headbang:

The author says it is possible to go local after the MS account method....................looks like I will have to hope that that is indeed possible :)

I don't like the sound of that. Fortunately I've yet to experience the delights of W11. ;) I might never at this rate.

I did find this: https://www.syscute.com/install-windows-11-without-internet.html

Installed W11 from scratch on this machine a year ago using other 'tricks' that may now have been disabled.
and @nandbytes

I had seen that page or similar and that really is jumping through hoops :(

However I did find this page

And realised that in effect it was more about setting up another user account who uses a 'Local Account' who is the Administrator and it works fine but I still have the other user account that is the MS PIN access one and that too has Admin Rights.

No, what I am not clear about is that logically(?) I could remove that MS account from the 'User Accounts' or at the very least make it a 'Standard User' now that the new local account has Admin Rights setup???

@Compuwight can I pick your brains as to what your view in on this :)

Edit
I can see in the Advanced User Management that it is possible to tick the box "Account is disabled".....is that a good alternative to the above?

I did find this page that explains about disabling a User Account

Perhaps just disabling it makes sense as it is removed from the sign-in list but is still available if needed ???

Provided that one is happy to use a Local Account with Admin rights (yonks ago I setup my W7 system and indeed my original W10 build with two local accounts one with and one without Admin Rights.

In the daily usage non-Admin Rights account ~ I hardly ever used the Admin account ~ whenever I needed to say install a program, the system would open a dialogue asking to enter the admin password.. In this newer W10 build I have single Local User Account but though it does not ask me to enter the password there is a dialogue box asking me to confirm Yes or No to proceed.
