Reflection pool

For small setups, I made a pool from a 1/4" iron plate
painted black and, to contain the water, I used black
silicon around the perimeter, The plate is about 2'x2'.

…here's what I looked at doing

For sure, my "pool" will be of no help since
the water level is no higher than 3 or 4 mm!

sounds smaller…

Yes Adam, about 4 square feet!
I made it to produce this take but
used it to many other takes since.

That's very neat, when thinking reflection pool, wildlife jumps to mind never thought about it for other things like this :)

I've made one over the weekend. Have been collecting some rocks and nice branches/logs for it over the last few days.

Just got to get out and use it!

Will post some photos of it in a while, if it helps.

super yes please thats the one Ive been looking at too and just ordered the tray :)

Just got to put some nice gravel down the left-hand side to make for different photos.

By the way, the tray that is in the background was 1m x 40 cm and it was far too small. So, as you can see, I bought the 1m x 1m and it's perfect.

Now, to attract those birds to it..... :)

P.S. I've had birds all over the log with the fungus on, just not been able to photograph anything on it yet. Had a pair of Siskin visit the garden the last two days in a row. Wow, the male is a bright yellow! Getting them on it is a goal :)

Super - why did you find the other one too small?

I found it too small as I wanted the three sides with different materials, e.g. the decorative log at the far end, those rocks from the local lake and down this left side the gravel that I mentioned earlier (when I get it).

On that smaller tray, it was too cramped and didn't allow any room for maneuver.

In other words, I had/have to rely on the birds standing on the middle of the log. With the two sides, there wasn't enough water to get a reflection, which is why I opted for the wider tray.

Cost £25 from Amazon (y)

Thank you Adam. I look forward to making the most of it this spring.

I'm actually doing a workshop with John Gooday, that you mentioned earlier, this coming Saturday, so will ask him if he has any other tips for it (y)

If you could post a review of the course please that would be really helpful . I know I've hijacked the thread

I had one a few years ago, my biggest tip would be, make sure your water level is as full as it can be and your perch isnt too thick at the end or the reflection has a big gap..

Here's one from a while back

Was looking to improve my existing reflection pool and came across this forum. I used a builders tray on a small table and just put some moss covered logs at the far end. I have a portable/folding hide and was pleased with the initial results. If I knew how, I could post some images on here.
