I have a problem with cs4 :( when I click on the refine edge button my computer freezes up and I cant for the life of me get it to work.. I have to end up using task manager to close down the program ..I have tried the adobe website and could not find out anyway to sort this out.

any ideas on how to fix this
 
Try resetting preferences, that often fixes out thing with photoshop.
 
well tried that and resetting all tools but nothing

I click on refine edge no dialogue box comes up just leaves the circle cut by lasso tool surronded in white then freezes cant shut it down or anything :cuckoo::gag::thinking::thumbsdown::bang:
 
May sound boring but try deleting PS and reinstalling. Might be an idea to defrag the hard drive before reinstalling so that Photoshop has a tidy disk to install into. Also check you've got all the latest updates. Don't think there were many for CS4 apart from ACR updates, but worth doing anyway.

Was CS4 installed from disk or a download from the Adobe web site. If it was a download maybe worth trying to get a newer copy, just in case the download got corrupted.
 
Have you recently resized your desktop? I had this problem when working with Photoshop 7 when I run my laptop at 800x600 to use a projector when teaching instead of its usual 1960x1200. Photoshop seemed to be remembering the usual higher resolution and the pop up boxes were being put off screen ( I usually have them pop up on the extreme right hand side) so I could nt see or interact with them so Photoshop just sat there waiting for a response from me and seemed to have crashed. I solved it by getting the pop up boxes to appear in the centre of the screen where I dont like them but it stopped the apparent crash.
 
well bless my soul!!!! you are the man :thumbs:That worked a treat and so simple... changed the resolution to the max pixels and no crashing . refine edge appeared "magnific".... I have been working at a slightly lower res lately, so that was the problem:cool:
