Yes
I have an apson r220 which is soon going to run out of ink. I may be able to get some very large genuine epson cartridges for one of their pro printers cheap. What I was thinking of doing was refilling my r220 carts with the inks from the other carts. I have a syringe but the only instructions I could find on the net talk about needing a plug to reseal the filling hole.

Has anyone refilled carts and could shed any light on this? The big carts I may be able to get have about 6 times the ink that the r220 ones have and I could get them for about £4-5 so it would be substantially cheaper if I can do it. I already have black an yellow carts.

I have heard bad stories about using compatibles causing head blockage. I have seen a CIS system for about the same price as a set of epson carts but the ink obviously won't be genuine epson.

thanks

Personally (and there are plenty of strong opinions on this) I would never use compatible ink or cartridges - each manufacturer produces inks specifically for their printers and papers. It may cost more but for quality prints stick with the same brand.

I have a bank of R220s that all use compatible inks and never had a problem, and that is with leaving them sometimes months in between uses. Not had a bloked head or anything. Great little printers :D

I use Jet Tec ink and have used other stuff and it all seems good :D

If you do refill your carts dont forget you will have to reset the chip on them or the printer will think the cart is still empty.

I use both epson ink on my pro 7800 but use Lyson in my pro 4000.
If you get custom profiles for each ink type, printer, and paper you use you will get very very good results.

the argument for using genuine ink is slowly being eroded, as most people dont use Epson / OEM paper any more, I only use 1 type of Epson paper now the others are Fuji Hunt, Hahnemuhle. are my main ones, I build custom profiles for each combination and tweak them to achieve the best I can from them.
