I am sure that someone somewhere will have asked this question before but I cannot find it.
As anyone been to Snaizehome near Hawes North Yorkshire to photograph the red squirrels, I know there is a gent who hires out a hide but I believe there is a view point that is quite good for seeing and photographing the squirrels. which I'm more interested in.
Could anyone out there give me more information. What is the best time of year to visit them, Is this area/ view point easily accessible and have you got a fair chance of seeing them and photographing them, directions to the view point would also be appreciated.

I tried to find this when I was up there earlier in the year. I found the directions to the view point virtually non existent. Maybe I didn't walk far enough. There is a car park where you can leave your car for a £5 fee on the left. The road/track is single track and narrow. Don't go too far as it's a dead end road and turning is very difficult. The guy that has the hide is Simon Phillpotts of Wild Dales Photography. I've been to his red squirrel hide and it's excellent. Far and away the best hide I've ever sat in. There is also a clearing nearby that you can just sit in and the reds will come to you.

Afraid that's all the help I can give you. It's easy enough to find info about Snaizeholme but actually finding it proved beyond me.

Thanks for the info Gary. I'm finding the same problem as you, there is plenty of info to be found on line but not a lot of definite directions. I'm going there on Saturday so we will see what we can find.

Its really tough to find. You have to take a disguised left up a rough track for a couple of miles, at a tiny hamlet between Hawes and Ribbleshead. Once you get fairly high up, on the single track, there is a left turn into the trees. As I recall, there is nowhere to park, save for a couple of pull ins at the side of the track. If you follow the path into the wood, and take a left over a fence after about 300m, a short walk will take you to a feeding/viewing area for the red squirrels.
Theres also a lake to walk around in the vicinity, and some lovely yorkshire dales views too.

Thanks for the info MattyW, and Gaz J. I went up on Sat and gave it up as a bad job in the end as I had walked for miles and found nothing. It was very frustrating, but I agree the scenery is good, but that's not what I went up for. Never mind I will try again
