Yes
I've been to almost all the demolitions in Scotland and it's my strange, sad hobby. Just thought i'd give a heads up about this demolition.

http://www.redroaddemolition.co.uk/

Of course, since the QE flats disaster you can't actively promote a demolition, and with this being so massive in scale and the explosives being used SafeDem are probably just covering themselves against problems with the "There's no good views" thing, as I'm over 9 miles away from Red Road and I can see every single one of the flats from my bedroom window.

Basically anywhere in the south, north or east is good for a location (but bring a 300mm+).

^^ Went up there tonight and had a look, all those trees have gone so you have the best view. No doubt more people will be on Royston Rd itself, so this might be quieter.

^^ If you want complete peace and quiet and have an 800mm or longer lens

There's the exclusion zone.

The usual stuff: it'll be very loud, shaped charges flying around, you'll probably get covered in asbestos, you'll be standing in the East End with expensive equitment, etc. So stay safe.

Anyone going?

I'm hopefully going to come up and watch, though it's a 2 hour drive from where I am.

Do you think the first location you mentioned will be suitable? I don't want to drive all the way up to not see anything

That's some exclusion zone if it takes in the roundabout up the hill from the flats as well. Royston Road or Provanmill Road will be popular I think for watching yeah?

Royston Road looks like a good bet, is it likely to totally crowded with people do you think?

No disrespect to anyone that lives round there, but I wouldn't fancy wandering around Royston Rd or Provanmill Rd with an expensive camera, it's one of the roughest parts of the city.

As much as I have family in that area (and a few who stayed in Red Road), just keep your wits about you. With events like this you get a nice balance of respectable people and chavs which usually stops the chavs from acting up.

I take back what I said about SafeDem being over cautious, it looks like this is a real challenge and theres a real danger of something going bad (I know every demo brings this, but I think it's higher than usual with this).

If Royston Road is still open (which I was told it wont be), there will be thousands there.

Anyway, I was down at Red Rd on Wednesday and since then I've picked up a chest infection (I'm not making any connections!) and I'm too unwell to attend this. I'll be watching from my bedroom window :(

Great stuff.

Just popped back to watch the video. It never fails to impress me how well they can control the fall. The road looked more or less unaffected.

Disaster at demolition site after safedem admit using too much explosives, hurling debris throughout Glasgow, and taking down several buildings, causing several hundred thousand pounds worth of improvements

Really? You been to Glasgow recently? Please tell us where you live so we can make disparaging remarks about somewhere that you love....Simply putting lol at the end of a comment doesn't stop it being offensive.

Dundee, isn't it? Which would make the comment a touch on the ironic side....

Take a chill pill man
I was joking, ffs, I'm from Dundee, although up and coming with a bit of regeneration, a tad behind glesga
And I've got loads of shots on my flickr from being through there just to prove I love the place
Apart fae the paranoid over defensive nutters, you seen any? :suspect:

Come on guys. Whars the famous glesga banter?
I jest, seems I touched a nerve, appologies, I wouldn't know how to react, as no one ever takes the mick out of Dundee

they put up a fence on the road as the perimeter of the expected fall zone and the debris fell 2m short of that, amazing stuff

will post up my pics soon

Its like anywhere mate, its what you make it, but its been good to me
Where / what do yo do in Dundee

Work in Invergowrie (Scottish Water) but before that the Riverside Drive office (by the Marmalade Pot) and up at Clatto Reservoir. Used to go out a lot in Dundee Perth Road & the Westport but not so much of late.

I done a design report on that riverside building for my hnd, many moons ago
Thats all my end of town, if you fancy a mini meet, be cool to meet you, blether/shoot, cuppa, whatever
I'm working beside botanical gardens down there tomorrow as it happens

I'll not be there till later in the week but at some point that would be good.

I sent a pm, realised we're killing this thread
Sorry about that

So even when you are saying this you are still being offensive.

You can't make a comment which someone finds offensive and then just say "it's a bit of banter". If you have rapport with someone and know them then that's fine but I seriously doubt that this is the case in this thread and I for one am sick of people talking trash about Glasgow, a city which I dearly love, and thinking adding lol or a smiley face at the end of a comment makes it ok.

To get back to the thread the Red Road flats were in their day a remarkable piece of social engineering and the highest homes in europe when built. Recently due to a number of factors they fell into disrepair and squalor and GHA have decided to knock down and rebuild.

As for Dundee....D C Thomson, Marmalade, a great bridge to photograph....and best of all Michael Marra.

I think most of us would agree the original comment was lighthearted and was never intended to cause offence. Let's move on.

You might think original comment was...I didn't.

The second comment was quite clearly directly derogatory.

Nice...need to remember that you can say what you want about other towns then...just add a smiley

Nicely captured there! A lot of people said it was just too fast. Most demolitions have a pigeon blast or at least some kicker charges before the fall, but this was 3 rapid blasts and it was down.

I'm interested to see the film stuff aswell.
