Beginner Red Island Photography

Thanks for your link. I viewed your photographic website (above) and found your images quite normal and a bit dull, sorry but that's my honest opinion. Your landscape image has a wonky horizon line.

I think you need to add an 'About' button on your website to let people know something about yourself and your personal photography, and where you are based would be informative also.

Thank you, I'll try to do more interesting photos in future and will check my horizon!

I think your website is pretty good in its construction to be fair I like it.
I do think your pics are a bit flat and plain like the other chap says, im not saying they are poor but they lack that bit of va va voom.

I suspect some of them are shot in low light conditions, greens and corn need bags of sunlight, also try more vibrant colours, wild flowers and poppies look great in landscapes.

Pleasant enough set(s), but, what is your intention/expectation?

Tell us a bit more about the purpose of your site, please.

The "About" starts off talking about "I" and ends up talking about "us". My preference would be to talk about yourself, unless there are more than one of you taking pictures.

It also states that you don't believe in editing photos but doesn't explain why. I think you need to expand on this. I assume you are shooting with a digital camera. If you are shooting jpg format there are some edits applied in camera and many models offer some way to change these, so what rules have you set for this? If shooting raw then they will usually need editing and you aren't making the most of your images by skipping the processing stage, so I'm confused about your philosophy here. For film there are creative decisions to be made in the processing stage (even if processed by a lab) so again you need to define the criteria better.

That said, I like your site (I'm only viewing it on an iPhone) and enjoyed looking at your landscapes. As mentioned they lack any wow factor, but they work well together and have a nice "simple" feel to them (for want of a better word, hope that doesn't come across as condescending). The "street" images don't reflect the usual categorisation of street photography. Some of these I'm struggling to understand what you saw in the scene that you wanted to capture, but maybe you could find away to include text with the image to discuss each one in more detail.

I like the site but as others have said the pictures need a little more punch.

TimmyG my philosophy regarding editing photos is that photography is meant to show what is really there. If you want to see what isn't there then you should turn to people such as painters. I will change the about page. Thank you for your comment.

Hi, I have added some more photos to the website if you want to check them out, thanks! :)
