Red Eye Question/Help needed

Hi, I have searched the site to see if there are any tutorials or queries on this subject and couldn't find anything. So i hope you dont mind me asking what is probably a very basic question.

Unfortunatley I have a few shots with red eye which I want to get rid of (the red eye that is). Using the tutorial in Photoshop, selecting the red eye reduction tool, and black as my required replacement colour, instead of changing to black it goes varying shades of grey.

I guess I'm doing something wrong, but I'm not sure what. Could someone please help me.

Red eye reduction tools are a bit gimmicky quite honestly and you can usually deal with it quite adequately by other means. Try just drawing a tight mask around the eye (You may be able to use the circular mask tool) and just reduce the red using the RGB slider.

Well I tried CT's advice and I found that I was having to use the burn tool to darken the eye to get the desired affect (not sure if thats the right/best way but it works) I then tried the action that i got from Marrianne and it was excellent, really quick and more often that not didn't need to do anything else.
