Recommendations for Lens Repairs

Hi Guys,

I have a Canon 100-400mm L F4-5.6 IS that has got the problem of the locking liner breaking up.

Most of the liner has now come away and thankfully has fallen out of the lens rather than going into the lens.

Could anyone recommend a place to send it to have the liner replaced.

My wife did ask at the London Camera Exchange in Lincoln and I believe they quoted £30 to send the lens off then probably £160 to replace the liner.

Anyone had this repair carried out to their lens before now.

Although I'm in Lincolnshire quite happy to post to a reputable camera shop/workshop if they do the job properly.

Try Canon at Elstree. I sent my 100-400 there for a service, and they replaced large parts of the lens, so much so it ended up with a new serial number, but only charged me the standard service charge - the rest was on the bill as a bonus. Absolutely excellent service, and I in fact sent my 500 f4 there earlier today.

If you are in the UK, and you do not want to take the cost, I can do such repairs myself for a lower cost provided the parts are available.

Let me hear from you if you think their cost is very high.
