Normally use DSCL for prints and very happy with them. Most customers choose Matt (lustre) and typically these are up to 12x8 with the odd larger size. These are for family portraits.

I am now looking at selling prints of aircraft and iconic images (such as London buses, London, Cambridge) and some of these will be around 12x8 but expect most to be around the 20x16 size or similar. I may be selling these as prints (mounted) but possibly framed which I will do. So a few questions...

  1. How do others (such as Peak) differ from DSCL - as these are larger prints I want them to look as good as possible! Who do you use for the top end prints you do?
  2. Paper type - so many options! Have asked for some paper samples, but by understanding is that matt tend to be better for portraits and gloss for things like aircraft - correct? Appreciate its can be subjective, what paper types would work well?
  3. Silly question but what is the difference between foam and card mounts?

For top-end prints I print my own. For those that are larger than I can do (ie over A3) I use my local Snappy Snaps. Snappy Snaps is a franchise so quality is down to the local owner but the Lincoln branch is fine.

I like matt for everything but I don't find it sells so I always use glossy.

I don't like foam mounts but I cannot really say why. Prejudice on my part, basically.

Oh god, working through dscl prints and paper types along with metallic prints.
I've had printed car photos on Fuji pearl, beautiful, deep, really suited the images.
I've some black and white dog photos on Aluminium panels and the same images on acrylic panels.
So many options
