Hello!

I found this forum while researching a new camera purchase - and it seems like a great place to ask for advice.

Having used SLR film cameras many years ago, I moved on to point and shoot digitals when the kids were little - easy, convenient and lightweight.

Recently I've been getting increasingly disappointed with the quality of my photos. They look great on backlit screens and on the computer, but when printed out, everthing's just a bit dull and disappointing.

So I think it's time to splash out on a DSLR.

I'd like .........

Lightweight. That's most important. And small with it would be good.
Excellent picture quality
Interchangeable lenses (so not a compact)
Easy to use while I get up to speed but with full functions for later

And being a girl, I'd like something stylish, if that exists - it's the least important factor of course but I can't help liking cameras to look good! - and a little unusual or offbeat if possible.

Having not bought a decent camera for ages, the budget isn't too limited. I was thinking of about £700 max, to include body and one or possibly two lenses.

I have no particular brand loyalty - suggest something for my shortlist!

Go to Jessops, ask to demo the dSLRs within your budget, see which one you like!

Of course, if you want something stylish, you'll want a Nikon :)

Actually if you want something small and lightweight, with interchangeable lenses and a little offbeat, you might not go far wrong with:

http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/panasonicdmcg1/ (you can get it in red or blue)

or

http://www.dpreview.com/previews/olympusep1/

Image quality on these are great if you understand their limitations - they're not so good in low light/high ISO performance isn't fantastic.

Oh my word that Olympus is just what I think I'm looking for!

Visit to Jessops tomorrow is in order.........

I'll have a look at the G1 as well - and the stylish Nikons!;)

Thanks, both, for advice, much appreciated.

Olympus it is - but not yet:(

Mr Jessops assures me that the price is likely to fall in a matter of weeks rather than months - I can wait a while to save £75-£100!
