Recommend me a Nikon fit full frame wide angle lens for studio use?

I need something wider than my Tamron 24-70.

I'm not fussed about constant aperture, an extra wide aperture nor performance when wide open. Nor do I care all that much about distortion. It'll mainly be used stopped down a bit.

I'm more concerned about flare. I'm quite happy to buy non-Nikon, and don't want to spend heaps as it won't get a lot of use.

Any suggestions?

The Tamron 15-30 is the best wide angle lens I have ever used. Its also not a bad price !
 
Look for a 2nd hand Sigma 12-24. Extremely well corrected for rectilinear distortions (although perspective is very exaggerated, that's down to the laws of physics and isn't really distortion!) and possibly as wide as you can get for FF without going fishy.

Sun is just out of shot but was hitting the front element of the lens.

Simon take a look at the Tokina 16-28 f2.8 - it is just about as good as the leg-end that is the nikon 14-24 but far more flare resistant. The nikon bends light I think ;) It is also very reasonably priced and very well made (I had one).

I owned the Tokina too, very good lens for the money but it had quite bad front focus at times
 
I have tried a few wide angle options for Nikon they all have their own little quirks, I have went back to using the 16-35 f/4 it's not perfect, none of them are but it's the one that suits my needs best. They seem to fetch around £600 used.

What are you shooting in the studio that requires such a wide lens?

Two things - (1) exaggerated wide angle portraits of models with gawky awkward limbs, and (2) I want to explore this kind of thing much further with aerialists but getting everything in and still getting between the subject and backdrop is tricky at 24mm

Would a 20mm work? The newish 20mm f1.8g is stellar - it is what I use now (admittedly not for studio) - mind they are around £600 ish new ...

Interesting shot btw :)

In your budget the Sigma 12-24 is probably your best bet for that
