OK I asked for advice on the Fuji 8000fd a short while back and after reading LOADS of reviews I bought one.

Lovely camera to use and some nice features BUT the quality is just not good enough. I don't expect perfection but my old (about 5 years old) Minolta with its 4MP can run rings around it. (Fuji is 8MP)

The Fuji has a super macro mode the same as my minolta but you would think my Minolta was a very expensive camera in comparison its so much better.

Anyway I am sending it back and I am looking for a camera for around the £140 mark. Yeah I know its not much to spend and maybe I wont be able to get anything half decent for that money but I thought I would ask. I would like the same kind of features (decent zoom, super macro).

If its impossible I will either save more money or look at the second hand (or refurbished) market

Any help appreciated (again) :)

I'd go secondhand personally, you've had a bridge camera with the Fuji and you should see a benefit in going to a DSLR with better/ specialist lenses available. I moved from a Fuji bridge to a Canon 300d and will be upgrading in the near future, I would recommend the 300/350d as a first foray into DSLR you could probably pick one up with a kit lens for £100-120 less without.

I agree with Matblack,
You can pick up a good 2nd hand 350D cheep as chips and it really is a great first DSLR

Went from a bridge Sony to a 400D that I picked up for under £200, as much as i've finally realised how much I really didn't know I wouldn't go back even though I have missed a load of pics I would have got with the Sony :D

Invest in the best body you can then buy a lens or two in the next couple of months

Yeah I am leaning towards a budget DSLR. I worry though about buying from ebay.. might buy a load of rubbish

If you're worried about buying a lemon there is always the Canon outlet eBay store selling referbs direct from the manufacturer although they tend to go for a higher price than the average auction of the same product.

Agree with the above though, Canon 350D would be a great introduction into the world of DSLR photography

Have a look at the Canon Outlet on Ebay for factory refurb stuff with a guarantee. You can also get the likes of the Nikon D40, again refurbished, from £150-200 with a 1 year Nikon warranty

Brilliant I will check that out..... Do you have the URL ?

Funny thing is I have been looking back over the photos I took with the Fuji and maybe think I have been a little harsh. Yeah there is noise and its not as clear as my Minolta but it does have a 18x zoom and produces photos of 45 inches. But the noise isn't bad and a quick run through with a good noise filter and I have pics of a very good standard ... so I am in 3 minds now... I have a few days left of the 7 day cooling off period to decide....

Maybe for this money (£130) I wont find better... :bonk:

I had a Fuji S5800 converted for IR use and for what it was I didn't find it excessively noisy at low isos. Most bridge or compact cameras will suffer at high isos, it's just the way it is.

The refurb Nikons should be available for quite a few different Nikon dealers, Jessops in Glasgow have two black ones at £200 with 18-55 lenses and the London store has silver ones with the same lens for around £150

Yeah I must admit it is ok at low ISO, but that means I have to have it set permanently at ISO 65-100 but suppose that's do-able. Thing is I took it out today with my Minolta to compare.... and I should not have. I was fairly happy until then :bang:

Well after days of going one way then the other I have finally decided to keep the Fuji. I have been tinkering with settings and I am now very happy with the camera. It does take a bit of messing with settings but I am starting to get some cracking results which I will post soon
