Any recommendations for a Safari park trip approx 100 mile radius ofthe Midlands? e.g. West Mids, Woburn, etc. Family wants to go but never been to one before so thought I'd ask.

Do you have to photograph through closed car windows? Do you get your car trashed by monkeys etc? :)

Well West Midlands Safari was really quite good when I was there this time last year with a few TPers no need to worry about the monkeys as there are non there anymore, I only really kept the windows shut when there was something that might eat me ;)

Depending of course where you are in the West Midlands.... This might stretch the 100mile radius but if it does it is still worth it, Longleat is a must visit, family especially kids will love it.

We visited West Midlands Safari Park back in March of this year and I have to say it was great with the White Lions and I did get some great shots, in my opinion though Longleat is so much better.

You will have monkeys dive bombing the car but then that was part of the fun of it, just make sure anything that can be taken off before you enter the monkey enclosure is taken off. You can get so close to some of the Animals Tigers, Lions etc... you can get some amazing Pics and then a trip just back up the road into Bath can get you some brilliant Scene shots of the Abbey, baths and Pulteney Bridge.

I agree Longleat is amazing but it would be a very long trip for the OP

is it possible to do the drive through at Longleat but avoid the monkey enclosure
I am thinking of going but driving through the monkey enclosure puts me off:)

I suppose Leicestershire would be a bit further than the 100mile radius but then I drove up to Hull from Kent for the opening of the Deep and it was worth it, best Aquarium... Well in this country anyway.

Like said though Longleat is great and to be honest it is worth the extra mileage and you will end up with some amazing photo's and Bath is not far which like said it brilliant and then just down the road from Frome you have Stonehenge oh and the Cheddar Gorge, the cheddar man, the wookey hole.. Somerset itself is a great place for Photography and an amazing place to visit...

I am biased though... Bath and Somserset is my second home and Longleat is my garden! :D

I went to Woburn a couple of years ago, has a nice drive through safari bit, lots of small enclosures for after, you can drive around as many times as you like.

Also we when your on foot there is another monkey bit, when they were feeding the little ones, they were about 1ft away, got some nice close up photos.

Recommend woburn to anyone.

Closed my windows in the monkey part of driving, other than that they were open.

Just a big thanks for the suggestions everyone, sorry was away for a few days - appreciate the responses.

Another vote for Woburn. Same as really with the windows only shut in the monkey enclosures and when a lioness came within a few feet of the car :)

I was pretty impressed with Woburn a couple of weeks ago - we kept the windows closed strictly in the carnivore areas as I had the kids with me - we drove round once for viewing and once for photos and got to see every animal they have
