I have a MSI wind u100 which the touchpad plays up so I then got a Samsung N145plus :gag: - which now is going back as half the keys have fallen off & the lid doesn't close neither (3months old as well) plus I cant stand it...

I'm after a decent netbook again pref with at least 160gb hd - pref not with windows 7 hate that as well :$ - Budget is around £250...

Any recommendations

I've just gone from a Samsung to a Compaq 311c ION, and in use it's much better. It's got a 11.6" screen with 1366x768 resolution and an Invidia ION GPU so is viable with programs like Photoshop as well. Battery life is very good (2 evenings on battery now and still not flat).

I've got it dual booting Win7 and ubuntu, I understand that even OSX is possible.

I was lucky enough to get a very good condition one from the classifieds here, but I think they are around £250 new.

I have got an emachines 350 - 160gb hdd, n450 chip, 1gb ram - all for £160 at tescos. I have been really impressed with it and depsite what the reviews say I get about 8hrs from a charge.

Cheers for the input - I decided to go for a Acer Aspire 5336 15.6" Notebook Intel Celeron T3500 Processor, 3GB RAM, 320GB HDD, Windows 7 Home Premium.. Reason being that I did a search of the recommendations on here an most said to go for an Acer so it was the cheaper of them all - so shall see what happens tomorrow when it arrives...

Was £250 so bigger screen instead of the 10'' netbookso I can see pictures on a bigger scale

Althou I'm now using my old MSI as the Samsung is packed away ready to be sent - Im debating if I have done the right thing & ordered another laptop :$ as the funds could've gone to another lens :naughty:

Then talking about netbooks i always prefer fujitsu. Currently it is U series U2010. 1280 X 800 on crazy pocket size 5.6" screen. They are not on local market, i am always getting from Japan. Unfortunately new tendency to design devices for latest windows then this systems is not for mobile devices. I run it on Linux for remote system administration, etc.
Try to look for second hand U, P or T (tablet) series. Not Fujitsu-Siemens, just Japan made Fujitsu. If fujitsu has CF slot, check speed is operating on enough for you speed, on U ultraportables and P they use some old bus and useless slow.

Beware that atom processors video chipset have poor support for Linux drivers.
