Recently bought a 60D to get back into photography, first dslr I've owned that shoots video and fancy trying it out, I've only got 50mm 1.8 and 100mm 2.8 lens at the moment but but that will be changing in the coming months. I've curious as to what lens people shoot with the most, focal lengths and whether the STM lens really do make a difference? Video wise It will be mostly the kids, inside and out so nothing to expensive wanted for it.

I just use my 15-85, though depending on what you are shooting will determine the focal length required. I shoot mostly around 24-35mm. Shooting video is totally different to stills, sound plays an important part, so get a decent mike and a dead cat windshield. Focusing is the trickiest part with moving subjects, though a good ploy is small aperture and widish focal length to give good DOF to assist! A lot of effort in editing the footage will be required to make a decent movie. There is a lot to it, but it is fun.

This is one of my efforts

You could buy a cheap Nikon to Canon off Ebay and then an old manual AI Nikon lens if your happy with a prime. This will give you manual control of the exposure.

a wider lens possibly fixed 28mm or something similar
