Hi all

I'm trying to find a shoulder bag that is deep enough to drop in the Lumix G9 + 100-400mm lens, and wide enough to drop in the Lumix G80 + 12-60mm lens side by side?

I'm trying to avoid removing the lenses for transport/set up, would like them both made up at home and in the bag, so grab either rig in the field.

My current shoulder bag is not deep enough to store the G9/long lens on it's end, so lays flat but there's no room for the G80/short lens.

So a bag where both cameras can go in with lenses attached, side by side, lens first and bodies at the top?

Hope that makes sense.

Tamarac pro 12 will do the job keith , just sold one

I have two of these, holds two cameras in the top one with the 100-400, the other with the 100-300 with lens hood attached facing forward, with space between them for a GX9 with 14-140 lens, and space under that for spare batteries,
One end pocket has filters in, the other end pocket has a TZ60 in it, and the front pocket has a flash, spot finder, cleaning cloths, compass and a few other odds and ends.
They have straps on the bottom for a tripod.

The whole padding comes out as one piece, leaving just a useful bag, that's how I lost one of them to the manager :)

Going to start getting heavy carting it about on one shoulder.
Not good for the posture and maybe look at a backpack.

A shoulder bag hangs to your side so can be accessed without having to put it down.
Personally, I use a backpack and carry whichever body/lens I THINK I'll want round my neck.

Lots of camera backpacks are designed with a zipped back panel
They can then be swung round on the waist belt to access the gear without taking them off.

The Lowepro Event Messenger 150 will do that - I know this is true, because I used mine to carry a G9/100~400 plus a Sony A65 with 16~300mm in it.

The G9 was banished to a Tamrac after I aquired a second A65 but the Lowepro is the smallest bag I know that will meet your specification, and it will take an iPad at the same time!

I’ve got one of these (and the 10l version), I find it dtributes the weight better than a shoulder bag (even if this is worn across the body) and is still accessible without having to take it off your shoulder.

I can't get my arms out of the shoulder straps without undoing the waist belt.

Standard LowePro backpack - MiniTrekker IIRC.

Out of curiosity, what are the advantages of a shoulder bag over a photo backpack, or even a messenger bag format ?

I imagine if you want to walk miles to a distant photo location a backpack would be a better option, but for photographing on the go a shoulder bag works well.

With the bag on one shoulder and a camera on the other they balance each other.

Backpacks make you look like you belong to a camera club, so shoulder bags have the advantage there. :exit:

Best of all, though, you can get access your butties easier from a shoulder bag. :D

But in a backpack, they last until I'm out of the car park!!!

I tried them in the bag this morning to see if they would fit.
Whilst trying them, I wondered why I would take two cameras with those two lenses. The 100-400 overlaps the 100-300, so my choice would be before I left, do I want the reach of the 100-400, or do I want the lighter weight and smaller size of the 10-300 and sacrifice the reach?

From my point of view, I don't like a heavy bag swinging around on my shoulder, and I also like to take the bag off and put it on something before digging in it, dropping something is far less likely.

I do carry more than one camera in a shoulder bag, but they have distinct different functions that don't overlap.

Finding bags that suit a specific purpose is worse than buying hi-fi components though :)

Usually cheaper though!

Owned and tried many bags over the years ,shoulder, backpacks etc . Each has it pluses and minus points . Currently down to two a cheap chinese backpack cost all of £ 12 used off e.bay but as good and roomy as a lowepro 400 . And just bought a large crumpler backpack huge insides with more storage than I need , sniped it for £20 off e.bay .
One for me one for the mrs .. basically they’re just for taking the might need stuff with and are locked in the car boot all day . For normal walkabout normal gear consists of camera and 100-400 lens and 1.4 tc in pocket that’s it ,dont even take a spare battery these days as the camera has two fitted

Have you tried wearing bags across your body like this chap? I find that is more comfortable than hanging them off my shoulder...
