As Adobe pretty much sprung the release of Lightroom 4 unannounced, it may well be the case that people who recently (i.e. in the last week or two) bought Lightroom 3 might be able to get a free upgrade. I've not tried it, but Adobe's official policy is here

I'd definitely emphasise how there was no pre-announcement or pre-order window, so it was unfair to have to upgrade if you bought LR 3 in the last month or so.

Worth a try...
 
i brought cs4 just before cs45 cam out and a upgrade disk came through the post!

never asked just came!
 
It will be interesting to see what happens.

Adobe's official policy is that if you buy an old version of a software product AFTER a new version is announced, then you get a free upgrade. But they don't address the situation where you've bought the old version just BEFORE the new version is announced.
 
I wouldn't say it came out of nowhere.... The beta version has been doing the rounds for a while and there has been enough talk about it on forums like this one.

I don't know if there was a pre-announcement or not but everything I read said it would be the beginning of March.
 
I've just contacted adobe about this, on behalf of a friend who bought LR3 on my recommendation at the end of Feb.

The guy in chat support said that if I sent proof of purchase they would offer a free upgrade - at least that's what i think he said......:thinking:

Agree, it has been heralded for a good few months now, so no reason to be surprised about it really.
 
Just sent a web request to see if I can get a free upgrade, not too worried if I dont as I got LR3 at focus for a heck of a knockdown price.
