So after having my flash for a while, I thought I'd take a look through the manual instead of just using TTL or Manual.

One quick question - Rear Curtain Sync........

I think I understand what it is - the flash fires just prior to the shutter closing as opposed to it opening.........

Could someone briefly enlighten me (ho ho ho) as to situations where this would be used, why and the effect it would produce?

Many thanks

Really must bookmark that thread, it's really very good!

In short - where the motion is regular, predictable, etc, it can be very useful with long exposures. In situations like clubs, it's pretty useless and as a pre-flash is still fired before the actual exposure, meaning people will think you've taken the shot, move, and when the actual flash happens to freeze them, they'll be long gone!

Cheers Chris - duly bookmarked! Thanks.

Note to self - use the sodding search facility.

Haha, unfortunately doing a search for 'second curtain flash' gives you far too many results, you've got to know what you're looking for! Hope that helps, any more specific questions just ask!

P.S. Hope the ankles are doing o.k mate

Cheers Chris,

They are getting there - old casts off and new ones on today.

Sporting a very cool and trendy  pair of titanium / steel effect silver grey fibreglass casts............ tell you they are going to be the height of Norfolk fashion for Autumn 2010........

*tries to shake off mental image of what you're actually wearing (or not) in this photo* :D

Glad to hear it, the silver/titanium is very 'in' this time of year, ooh suit you sir, ooh :naughty:

Is that first or second curtain sync you used there? :D

Now if you'd swung your leg with a long shutter speed... ;)
