Saw coverage of this in the news, don't like it at all. I certainly will not be watching. Playing with peoples lives for 'entertainment' is just wrong.

Reality TV had already gone to far, total waste of time in my opinion ;)

Its just the next ievitable step down the road of facile entertainment. Its disgusting to the point of being perverse and i fear there will be no improvement in TV until the general public wakes up and questions what they are (willingly) being subjected to.

The main reason for me watching rugby, cricket and Top Gear only.

Sounds great :D

Only kidding, this certainly is a step over the line as far as I'm concerned. I just don't get how this can be classed as 'entertainment'. Big Brother was bad enough, but where are the ethics in this?

If this is that Donor thing, I read about it last week.

TBH I find it quite appalling that it's being allowed to go ahead.
Not necessarily for the sense of the viewers voting who should receive the donation, but primarily because they get the final say.

It's just wrong on so many levels. I can't believe it's being allowed.

Completely distasteful ... :puke: ... imgo ... :suspect: ... as Marcel says 'on so many levels' ...

But it is just the latest in an ever downward spiralling list of crap-on-tv ... imgo again ...

The only way it will get better is if the individuals who watch such rubbish all only watch rugby, cricket & Top Gear ... :cuckoo:

All imgo ... ;)

:p

totally disagree with this, but is it any worse than giving a transplant to the likes of george best?

I seem to be the only person who doesn't feel this is a bad thing.

Whilst it may be endemol doing the show, I don't think its in the same class as BB for a number of reasons. The "voting public" aren't voting, just advising the donor who gets to choose. Whilst the donor themselves choosing is unusual its no different to an ethics committee choosing the recipient based upon their history.

It will also hopefully be done in such a way that it showcases the stories of the hopeful recipients, showing they are normal people, and possibly persuading some Dutch people to sign up as donors, as there is a crippling shortage of donors.

I think it could do without the viewer phone in part, and Endemol producing it leaves it open for a huge amount of criticism, but if done tastefully this could be a great programme.

I will lay off judgement until it has aired, and I have tried to see it. Instant cries of reality TV goes too far are slightly premature (I very, very hope!!).

As the lord our Jonny says, the only way it will get better is if the individuals who watch such rubbish all only watch rugby, cricket & Top Gear. And if they dont I'll be sending the boys round :bat: :bat: . So there.

Aww - cheers Ven

:) :D

Its not as straight forward as donating a kidney to someone who needs it though anyway.

Have these three people already been confirmed as a match?

A friend of mine has been waiting for a new kidney for years and they haven't found a match yet. She carries a pager and has to be ready at a moments notice.

Sorry I am probably going into this in far more detail than it warrants. But you cannot just decide who gets the kidney by talking to them and their family.

Andrea

I believe the three have been chosen because they are a match, and would be the candidates presented to the ethics/donor committee anyway.

The thing I am wondering though is why only one person gets a kidney, why not two? Unless there is a request that one of them goes to a family member, or has already been assigned as part of the deal for doing the show?

We'll have o wait and see.

It just goes to show what people will watch that the TV companies put this sort of crap on. The first step on the slippery slope came when Crossroads started and and continued on a downward spiral ever since. Nevertheless there will be a lot of people (the viewers  ) who will lounge on their couches and let this tide of mediocrity wash over them while they grunt for another chip or Pringle. They will then talk about it, wide eyed and slack jawed, with their fellow public transport user on the way to the place they get paid for attending and because some of the viewing panel admit to watching it the ratings will show that it has been a success.

Friends, it is what we have come to I'm afraid, and if you think this is bad just wait till 2010, we will look back and say "how could it come to this" yet again!!

You have a channel selector and an off button. Some of the folk here can't possibly have the time to watch any tv at all the number of post they put up, and all power to their elbows I say!

It will all change come the revolution :bat: .

Sorry, I've had a couple of drinkypoos.

I thought this was a Dutch tv program, not being shown in the UK?

I'd personally have my doubts about receiving a kidney or any other organ from someone with cancer, by it's nature it's invasive and spreads fast.

I thought this was a Dutch tv program, not being shown in the UK?

There must be better "Dutch" programs they could show :naughty:

back OT. I agree , it's just wrong on so many levels

It was a Hoax read HERE it was a programme designed to stir up interest in Organ Donors etc.

Mike.

A hoax? Or was Endemol testing out the waters to see if they could get away with it?

I'm the absolute cynic and when it comes to programmes produced by Endemol I beleive they'd try anything to get ratings! And I mean anything!

Grrrr! End 'em All I say!
