'Re-Editing' in Lightroom/Photoshop

I use LR2 and CS3 PS for my editing. I was editing a photo this evening, first in LR, then in to PS. Saved the PS version back, with 6 layers or so.

Fiddled about a bit, and then went to re-open that edited version in PS from LR, to find it opens as a merged file with only a 'background' layer, but I actually now want to get in to the layers - what am I doing wrong?
 
Sorry people, answered my own question when I went back to it.... duhhhhh!
 
It would be useful if you could post the answer here incase someone else has the same problem.
 
No, my original edit I just saved in Ps, which then creates the edited version in LR. When I then went to open this, I clicked the top of the three editing options instead of the one that doesn't add LR changes and keeps the original PSD file intact, thus getting access to the layers.

Was a bit of an elementary mistake (probably due to lack of sleep!)
