Hi,
i was hoping that someone could put me on the right track.
I was out shooting and thought ok people have been saying you
get better results when using Raw so i shot in raw +jpeg.
When i downloaded my shots all i got was jpeg.
What do i need to do to get the raw shots on screen.
Do i have to get some soft ware to do this?
Sorry to appear so thick, but i have not got anyone to just ask for help
apart from you guys.:bang::)
Thanks in advance.
By the way i did do a search, but found nothing which could help.
I use a 40D + CS 2.

Hi Dave, can you not just drag and drop the raw file into CS2................

Im not sure that CS2 supports 40D........if not,you could use the software that came with the camera.....

CS2 doesn't support RAW files from a 40D.....you'll either have to upgrade to CS3 or convert the files (maybe to DNG format) before opening them in CS2.

Or you could download picassa.

its not a great prog for post processing but you will be able to see your photos and have a play.

You can see, process and convert using Digital Photo Professional........ The program/software that came with your Canon camera

Thanks for the help guys.
I have tried to convert using Canon Digital photo pro. but still no joy.
Looks like i shall have to upgrade to CS3 then we might get somewhere.:bonk::lol::wave:

Hi Dave,

DPP (Digital Photo Professional), the software that came free with your camera will most certainly read a RAW file and enable you to convert to JPEG.

My advice is to read up on how to use the software properly as you will be overlooking or misunderstanding something along the way.

Google a search on Canon's DPP and tutorials, there's bound to be more than few helpful links.

Hi,
When i downloaded my shots all i got was jpeg.

Dave,

Does that mean that the only files downloaded were the jpg's ? and not the RAW's ? If so, what download tool are you using ? If it's the windows tool, then it doesn't recognise the RAW files (from the 450d at least) as image files and doesn't download them. I use the ZoomBrowserEX downloaded to pull the files from the card.

Dave from the original post when you say get them on screen do you mean see the files on screen or view the contents of the raw file on screen. And if you mean you cant see the icons then my following advice may be the answer?

You can't shoot raw in auto mode.. you must be in a manual mode such as shutter/aperture priority or full manual. Is it the case then that you have been shooting in auto and therefore have not created any raw files?
