Hi Guys

I must be having a mad moment, but for the life of me I cannot find out why.

Just installed a new hard drive in my machine with a nice clean install of Windows XP SP3.

No for some reason I cannot vew RAW file Thumbnails in Windows Explorer, and I am sure I could before.

I have installed Canons RAW Codec and I have installed Microsoft RAW Image Thumbnailer and Viewer for Windows XP.

I can Veiw the Thumbnails taken on my Old 10D & 20D, but not those taken on my 40D & 50D.

I did try the arcsoft Raw viewer which did work but only with the 40D files, still no 50D viewing.

What am I missing here, I am sure I didn't download anything to view them before.

Paul

I have the same problem with 5D and 1Ds files on XP sp2. Real pain.
No problem on my Mac though, even handles dng's

With a bit more digging about I think I have found out what the problem is.

The Microsoft RAW Image Thumbnailer and Viewer for Windows XP dosen't support RAW Files from the Canon 40D or 50D.

So I must have been using some other software to Patch explorer.

Its Not Arcsoft as that also dosen't support the 50D.

Anyone got any clues as to what I might have used.

PS this is only for viewing in windows explorer.

Thanks

slightly off topic but where do you get these from, i DL'd XP SP3 hoping it would hav ethe viewer as it did on my friends but had no joy

yeah, just finished downloading it, not joy here either, i can't even view in image preview

I found grief when installing both the Canon RAW codec and the Microsoft Raw viewer product together. I would suggest just using the Canon codec.

Unfortuantly I don't think you can cleanly remove the Microsoft Raw viewer without a rebuild.

i had installed the canon one before i downloaded the microsoft raw and had no joy, unless the microsoft viewer was part of the SP3
