GF2, shoot raw and use Silkypix, very little pp, mostly the presets etc.

Should I use the sharpening programme in Silkypix, or unsharp mask during development? What is the difference between the two?

I'm just a happy snapper trying to put good quality pics in the family album, print size a4 max

Unharp mask is something to do with contrast and is an evolution of a practise used in darkroom printing to increase sharpness. Overcook it and it goes all haloey like HDR, and ends up ruining the image.

I'd play with the standard sharpening tool, as he effect will be less pronounced than USM if you muck it up :)

Nice to see someone using Silkypix. I was beginning to think I was the only one.

It suits me :) I dont have a calibrated monitor nor the time or inclination to explore these things, but I want good prints for the family. It does it's job, I think :)

its a very good method whic i 99% of the time use.

Sometimes no idea why but sometimes USM has done a better job on some photos for me

Yep, same here, obviously there is the www to gain info, but struggling to find a simple explanation of the difference between usm and the sharpening tool in Silkypix, and why some tutorials say NOT to use the Silky tool, and leave it to usm
