Yes
i did the big switch this weekend from Jpeg to RAW but i noticed when i take the picture in jpeg it appears on the view finder fine, but with all RAW pictures there silly bright and look crap. Am i doing something wrong? i have my camera (350d) in the M setting to use RAW :help:

i will get the images off my camera tonight as ive just got home from my trip

You don't need to use the M setting to shoot raw. Have you set the camera up to shoot in raw via the menu settings?

try taking raw and jpeg at the same time, will fill the memory card faster, but will show any problems.

also post some examples

of course, switching to M does mean you have to get the exposure right
try Av or Tv

thats what i was thinking the exposure maybe right out :( it must of been left over from doing some night shots! :bang:

the good thing with raw is it can be played around with alot in photoshop. unlike jpeg what you see is what you get.

Why did you change to M to shoot RAW ? You can shoot RAW with TV AV and P. I shoot in AV mode most of the time. If I need to change the shutter speed or aperture I simply use the control wheel, less fuss.

The pictures displayed on the camera's screen are embedded jpegs from the raw anyway - Remember it you use full manual mode you will need to set ( at least ) the shutter speed and aperture yourself before taking a picture.

havent a clue why i did it to be honest just went to M and changed it to raw

What do you use to convert your raw?
What does the histogram look like?
You could have overexposed or you have chosen the wrong preset in your raw converter.
i havent put ANY software on my pc yet for the RAW - thats the next challenge

Sounds like your shots are over exposed, when you change to Manual you need to make sure you have the correct aperture, shutter speed and ISO to give you a correct exposure. It might be an idea to switch to Av mode, where you select the aperture and ISO and the camera will select the correct shutter speed.

I think you might benefit from reading "Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Peterson, I found it a great help.

If you haven't got any software on your pc yet, how do you know they're not right? I don't think you can really judge that much from the picture on the LCD.

its just on over exposure, as people have said you can shoot raw in TV av P, you don't have to use raw
