RAW images won't open

Help...

none of my raw images will open, have tried to open them in CS3, elements, canon raw. i keep getting an error message 'could not complete your request as it is the wrong kind of document'.

am im being stupid and missing something obvious.

never had a problem before.

You may need the latest update for CS3 camera raw ACR 4.6 I think it is (the ones for CS4 won't work in it) if your camera is a new-ish model you may have to download adobes DNG converter, then convert your RAW to .DNG which CS3 will open.

Camera is over a year old so not that new, the programme has just 'stopped working'

My CS3 must have got corrupted somewhere as they used to open straight up via camera raw 4.2. now i have to convert them to DNG and the open up in version 4.0 weird.. lot more work now to convert the thousands i already have that won't open but at least i can access them

Strange, if they worked before they still should, I assumed you'd just got CS3. Have you tried trashing the prefs file in PS? that sometimes fixes odd things, although I'd try re-installing ACR 4.2 first, maybe thats got screwed up. Wayne
 
Nope, thats what i don't understand, CS3 extended has been on my pc for a 12 month. abosolutly no problems until testerday when it just stopped working.

i tried re-installing ACR4.2 but it made no difference.

how would i tras the preferences??

its not the card or file as i have loaded exactly the same images onto my laptop and they open in the same PS3 programme on there.... wierd

Hold down CTRL+ shift and ALT when you startup CS3, it'll ask if you wan't to delete preferences (or something similar) Wayne
 
As in OP's first post I have just installed cs3 extended and I am getting the same message, my camera is a Sony a300.
any help welcome please.
