My local town is snided with twitchers and birders at the mo as a Crag Martin has been spotted residing at the Crooked Spire. Unfortunately I can't get out of work to go, anyone else managed to capture it?

Ohh, didn't know about this, will have to venture into town this weekend (hopefully with my new Sigma 150-600mm if it arrives in time)

How did you hear about this if you don't mind me asking, i've only been a resident in Chesterfield for a year or so and still not found much of a network of birders yet

Will tell my dad as he lives in Killamarsh not too far away!

My wife works opposite the Crooked Spire and can see all the folk with their gear so looked into it.

It must be my tired eyes, as I just started reading this and thought -
"Who the hell is Craig Martin"?

I'll go quietly now. :exit:

Well i finally had a chance to head over there yesterday afternoon, spent the best part of 3 hours there and all we saw was a bunch of pigeons and a magpie :(

But now the weather has taken a decidedly colder turn i can't see it hanging around too much longer

From Bird Guides -

"Sure enough, the martin obliged throughout Saturday and was relocated at Chesterfield Football Club's Proact Stadium that afternoon, appearing to go to roost there. Settling into a pattern of visiting both the football stadium and spire, the bird continued to roost daily at the former and make occasional forays to the latter throughout the day, the often poor weather conditions this week seemingly not putting it off. One wonders how long it'll stay around, though the mild weather presumably means insect food is available — perhaps the first cold snap will see it move on?"

Good luck!
