Rainproof covers

I've got an all day show to cover tomorrow and the forecast isn't good so I'm thinking of getting one of those rainproof covers but are they any good and do they encourage moisture within the glass elements? I was watching something on TV a couple of weeks ago and noticed a pro 'tog with a chamois leather draped over his lens and was wondering if this might be a better option.

Camera is a D200 with 80-200mm AF-S so the set up is apparently weatherproof but I don't want to risk it too much.

Edit: I can't use an umbrella as it is an equestrian shoot.
 
Id go with the chamois leather option to be honest.

though I also have a set of (issued) rain-covers for occasions when I may be doing stuff from fast patrol boats at sea, just to keep salt spray off - rain I'm not concerned about, though in torrential rain focussing gets a bit tricky...
 
black sack :thumbs: hole in one end over lens hood use he body through the normal opening, always have a couple in the camera bag incase i get caught out, works a treat
 
Just got one off fleabay for £4.98 + £9.99 delivery. Will let you know in a week or so when it arrives.

I grabbed a pair of Optech Rainsleeves for Goodwood. They work really quite well and for £5 a pair you can't go wrong.
 
Thanks for all the advice, I used a chamois and it was fine, everything was kept dry and the results can be seen here.

Doesn't it just! I had to bin a load of shots because of it, I even resorted to manual focus for a while. :shake:
 
A plastic carry bag and a few rubber bands does the job for me...

But I am saving up for something alittle better, the AquaTech Sport - Basic

Just my tuppence as I've been out down by Meadowhell in the rain. I took a large sandwich bag, poked a hole in the closed end and gently pulled it over to make a water tight (ish) seal on the focus ring. Then I slid it over the rest of the camera and poked another hole for the eyepiece. It's a D50 so I used the eyecup to secure the bag in place. Just enough space for my hand to fit in the bag :thumbs: Apart from the draw-string arrangement it looks very much like one of the OpTech rain covers.

The only bit it doesn't cover is the extending lens barrel but I just held the camera pointing down when possible and used a microfibre cloth to dry it when necessary.
