I'm pretty sure I had a moan about my Life Personal Membership with the RAC suddenly vanishing last year BUT here goes with a bit more

Last year I had a problem with my car - brakes were stuck on so having Life Personal RAC Membership since 1984 I called them.

It appeared that my Membership had expired - how does a Life Membership expire ?

I got absolutely nowhere with them and totally gave up.

I've just heard from my elder daughter that today she had a similar problem :-

At 02.35 this morning , on her way to work [ She's in Passenger Transport so keeps odd hours] she got a puncture ! Phoned RAC and was told her membership had expired in August !! Now in August she had renewed her membership and because she had renewed early was given the advantage of an extra 3 months . RAC totally refused to come out to her and indeed told her to try AA or Green Flag !!
She was left stranded in the dark , a single woman , on a National Speed Limit road linking the M25 with a big Regional Distribution Centre.
She got out of the situation by phoning her depot and one of the engineers came out and rescued her

After my and her experience we would STRONGLY advise anyone with RAC membership to check that the RAC Records actually have them as active members.

Have you got any proof on membership? For example, I do my RAC via Clubcard and get an email to say when its set up with membership number, save that in a folder so I have that available
 
Thanks to this thread I’ve just discovered that I can get a discount of 3p/ litre when I fill up at Shell.
Reward activated!

Oh, I also get an annual renewal reminder.
 
I had [ still have] an official RAC Card with my membership number which stated it was from 1984 ! My daughter has checked he bank statement again and is convinced that it went through - otherwise how was she notified that by renewing early she was granted a free Membership for some time ?

Please do check that according to RAC records you still do have membership
 
A good heads up and sorry to read that you are still having issues that also seem to be affecting your daughter.

I have checked my RAC membership and is as I thought current (I pay every year) and my RAC Black card says I have been a member since 1975.

Interestingly, and no idea why but the portal just says I have been "a member for 15+ years and my card is Orange" but years back they sent me the Black card telling me that it carried extra reward benefits compared to shorter memberships :thinking:

As for the Shell rewards I thought I had a Shell card somewhere but it may have been their own older scheme. Looks like I need to re-register to get the 3p discount, though it mentions V-power fuel only.....is that not the premium grades...if so 3p off the difference between 'normal' grade and premium does not attract me.

Convinced it went through? Either it did or it didnt. If it did then I would get that refunded.
 
I can trust my daughter to do what's needed - she is a very experienced Transport Manager :P

If she says it was renewed - I believe her.

Mine was a Life Membership so I didn't need to do anything till I needed them. My understanding was that at some point in the transfer of stuff by the RAC as it changed itself [ can't remember what they did ] they did away with Life Membership but didn't tell me!
 
I did ask her to check that her membership had gone through

Just had this text back

" oh yes. Had to have done - because they found C [ 2nd son] who was only added to our policy when it was renewed in August last year.
And if it hadn't gone through why did they send me new cards ?
They have now admitted that all 3 of us are members."

She is waiting till she has calmed down enough to compose her complaint .
 
I think it will take her quite a while - bearing in mind that at 2am she was on her way to open up so that School buses etc would be leaving on time.
