Hi, I have a nikon D200 and a sigma 105mm macro lens and I'm mulling over getting the R1C1.

Is this the best bit of kit to go for when considering macro / closeup work? If so can anyone show me some examples of photos taken with the R1C1?

I think you will just need the R1 flash kit as you have the commander unit in the D200 - its is excellent for macro work

I couldn't get much better with homemade/other versions of it, it's a great piece of kit (SU-800 not required)

Have a read here, with some samples
 
Nice work! Are there any advantages having the su-800 in addition for any other type of photography?

What sort of price would I be looking at for just the R1? I've started looking and so far my best find is around the just-under-400 mark
 
I've never had the need for the SU-800, but I know a few guys that use it for multi-flash setups (sports, gig photography, etc.)
I paid somewhere between 350 and 400 a couple years back, so that doesn't sound like a bad price atm.
 
There is someone around here ;) who was selling his ... have a look in the For Sale section, and you could be saving yourself a few good ££ :shrug:
 
Hi guys, back again, I'm more or less sold on the idea of getting this set up, but just want to make sure I'm getting the right equipment for what I want to shoot. I'll be shooting mainly flowers either indoors or in-situ (depending on the weather!). I've not ruled out the occasional 'pretty' bug either.

I would at some point down the line look into shooting birds, pets and children but at the moment its the close-up work I enjoy.

Are there any benefits of having the SU-800? If I wanted to add more SB200's or use an SB800 and arrange units in 'groups' (still learning about that!), would the on-board commander on my D200 be lacking compared to the SU-800?

Would I beable to grow with the R1?

PS. I couldn't find one for sale on here......
