Your so lucky being able to do this for a living, I really envy your job. Im stuck in a signal box all day, one of the newer ones, we dont even have windows, still thats life as they say

How many images do you think you'll take (roughly) on those 6 jobs?

Good grief I ahve no idea and not one for counting.. But it all depends on a lot of things when you get to the job..

I could have got away with less than 50 pics at the girls tournament yesterday aft... just some pics of final and presentations... But I ended up doing around 400 pics as I offered the school a set as well... I already do some work for sports colleges/schools so hopefully they will like these and enquire...

The play last night was around 3 hrs long and I ended up with around 600 pics of which 100 or less will make it.. thats because the conditions where terrible with very very bright spotlights on one part.. almost darkness in others and just house lights in others... Also only one chance to get the "action" and not knowing the play I didnt know what was coming next... So a stupid amount...
However the play started out as a favour for my daughter... I will now be published in both local papers... One I will be paid for and the other as part of my retainer.. If just going for the paper it would have been 20 to 30 shots.. but a dvd of the play means i needed to get everyhting..

Game at 2pm this aft for local college.. loverly day (wed 13th oct) and doing full match so maybe 400-500 pics

Tag rugby tommorow... absoloutly no idea....

Thanks Kipax - always good to hear these kinds of things from you guys on the "front line".

Tag Rugby is great. Get behind a try line and you should get some great images of the kids coming towards you with others either trailing in their wake or shots where the tackler is ripping off the tag.

Couldnt believe it this aft... private owned pitch loverly day..get there and long line of trees between sun and pitch... so not just half shadow ground but not even a straight line of shadow :( Pics are close to blown out or under exposed.. horrible conditions and no use auto iso as the lighting was so extreme it needed under exposure at one side and over exposure at other..

Job done but hard work.. and on a clear day sat in shadows was cold

Kipax - please give us a quick run down on how you cope with this.

i.e. what settings were you using and how did you changer them so quickly.

Because the sun was strong over the trees it meant players to my left who had yellow stripped kits where gold and shiney and white faces.. overblown on AV mode... so when the action was there i just change the wheel to under expose by 1 stop... when pleyers in the shadow like a night match I over exposed by one stop flicking the wheel.. I had iso set at a figure that would allow shots in the dark to be within shutter range... this made for bright pics with high iso in the other part... but it worked :)

no point using auto iso as some would suggest because i stil needed to under or over expose so i still needed to manually change it... oh and middle of pitch was perfect on Av

rugby at 4pm thursday so the sun will have set a bit and hopefully not as much a problem..

One downside to self employed is how aware you are of making money each day and how much.. becasue each day is different.. today I made X amount only to come home and find out my son urgently needs new footy boots and the price aint far off what I earned today.... by the time we bought the boots and i picked up some dunlop golf weather gear to use at matches and a big brolly for in back of car I had spent more than I made today.... you become more aware in this situation :(

My son wanted boots at the beginning of the season £95 :bang: - we settled on the £65 ones - madness.

Didn't know you played football Helen.

Ah I see.

Luckily you aren't am impressionable teenager who likes to keep up with the crowd and NEEDS to be seen wearing the best gear at all times.

the girsl tourny i did on tuesday will be in next weeks paper.. but i gave the organisors a load of pics i would have otherwise thrown away... also explained i take more if doing it for the event and gave them my rates if they ever need me in future.... so pics i would be trowing ar an advert to the school in the next town to me...

did the tag rugby today... was nasty overhead clouds so a bit iffy... was good fun though and as mentioned by others they seemed more delighted at tagging than getting a point :)
