quick selection tool

i have PE9 when i use quick selection tool, it seem to take forever to outline a subject,
i clink on tool, and in option bar pick tool with no + or -, run tool around subject and it goes all over the place, then i pick +or- tool to correct, and it overuns my subject,
is there anyway this could be made easier, thanks

Using a large brush and single clicks is alright for simple selections where there is a sharp contrasting edge.

For more difficult subjects you need to use a small brush and work your way round the inside of the edges holding down the left mouse button, then use the refine edges tool if neccessery.

This took one minute using the quick selection tool.

To be honest in most cases except the most simple that's just what it is a quick selection which you further refine by selecting one of the other tools or technique.

I mostly use the QS tool to make a quick basic selection then change to a layer mask for more control.
