Just got my Sigma 10-20mm DC Lens. Going out this afternoon to take something back to shops so will be passing a jessops so I thought about getting a UV Filter for it for protection reasons. Then I was looking at a 1B Skylight filter. Will it be ok to leave the skylight filter on the lens 100% of the time or is it only used in certain conditions?

Skylight and UV filters do essentially the same thing, protecting the lens.

UV filters by their nature, filter out UV rays, whereas I think skylight (if Im not mistaken), filter out the blue haze you tend to see on horizons?

I would personally leave it on all the time. But thats just me.
As you've got the Sigma 10-22, make sure there it's not visible in the widest of settings

I use UV filters on my lenses, and unless it can't be avoided, they never leave the end of my lens. That way I can ensure that there are no little scratches or marks on the front element of the lens (which going by the state of some of my filters already, I would say is quite a possibility) As far as I know, a UV filter filters out the hazyness caused by UV light (Although how effective this is with digital is debatable as I think the built in hot filter infront of the sensor does it as well) and a skylight is essentially the same, but also adds a slight warming tone to compensate for the blue colour cast caused by blue skylight.

I have a skylight fitted to all my 'l' lenses, (hoya pro HMC thingys) get the best you can, the hoya's pro's are by far better then jessops that i used on my Sigma.

I opted for a Skylight, got a Hoya one not the Pro version tho as they were out of stock, now I can't wait to get to Australia and get out to take some stunning landscape shots!
