am i right in thinking, that if I'm taking a picture where the subject is lit by orange lights, then i should set my WB to tungsten to avoid too much orange glow? i dont want to chance it with auto mode.

any help appreciated

How orange is orange? The tungsten setting is generally around 3200K, which is the colour of quartz halogen, the actual colour in your shot may be very different from that.

Because of this it's much better to set a custom white balance

Can you get rid of orange with the WB setting? I thought WB was to adjust the picture for colour temperature to match the way that you see the pic as you do this automatically.

If it is orange, presumably low pressure sodium, isn't it still going to be orange?

its orange fairy lights im shooting with, and although i want to keep the orange, i dnot want too much orange glow, imo and from what iv seen on flickr, it ruins the shot.

I suppose the advantage of digital is you can quickly experiment to find out. It would be interesting to see examples of how it copes with the colour.

yeah, im thinking pp might be the best option, however, iv just had a fanny about with the lights in question, tungsten and a custom WB produce far too cool, but the sunny setting seems to be giving the effect im looking for.
