Quick advice needed i have a offer of a brand new canon EOS 1Ds mark 2 16.7 megapixel for £1200 should i by it it has only got warranty in USA so i ges it will not have warranty here, also i already have 5D will i be any better off with 1Ds:shrug:

Cracking camera - that's a crazy price if it's genuine. There's a new version gotta be due sometime this year but that's still a lot of pixels!

Just be realistic about whether you need those extra pixels. If you make HIUGE prints you'll see a difference. You'll be getting image library sized images out of the camera without any need for upsizing - assuming no cropping of course, but even then things will be much easier. If it's largely going to be for posting web images then it's going to be a waste.

Great camera and a cracking price if you really need it. Be careful though - it really does seem a daft price for a used one - never mind a new one.

Would wanna know how many actuations roughly it had got. If the warranty is US only then you need to be prepared to throw away 1200.00 quid if it goes wrong, or maybe fork out more if Canon UK has to fix it and then warranty, all that glitters is not always Gold but if your sure it is then yeah bite his hand off from the shoulder blade :)

Thanks it seams 2 good a deal even if it come from US it would have cost more than that watt a dilemma i cant make up my mined some people say the D5 is 2 slow for action shots so that is way i was considering the Ds1 m2:thinking:

The 1DS Mk2 isn't that quick on continuous drive ( 4 frames per second), so isn't the ideal action camera, although the AF system will be far quicker than your 5D.

The usual choice for action shots is the none S version- the 1DMK2 which does 8.5 frames per second but has a 1:3 crop sensor.

Well i think ill walk away from it i always remember the old saying if it sounds 2 good to be trow then it you-sly is ges ill never no but if it is genuine watt a bargain but if it isn't i cant afford to chuck £1200 smackers dawn the drain
Thanks all

More investigation needed there Sherlock :suspect:

Stay well clear, Don't touch it with a bargepole.:nono: There isnt such a thing as a 1DsMkII for £1200 mate, Take my word for it.

It has to be stolen I'm sure, Sounds like a definate scam. Even if it was £2200 I would be very suspicious..:suspect:

Take a look on eBay, Second hand units are fetching well over £3,000..;)

You hit the nail on the head, If it sounds too good to be true, Then it is..

PERIOD..

...and apart from all the good advice above there are still many people out there with 1Ds II's and 5D's that say the image quality is so near as to make almost no difference. Some even say that the 5D is better.

"16 million pixies in a 35mm sized chip is just too much for most canon lenses" seems to be the generally held opinion as to why the 1DS II underperforms compared to it's spec.

Don't take it personal mate but that's hogwash..:cuckoo:

I don't take anything on the net personally..... and less so in the pub. ;)

I totally respect your right to hold your opinion as completely correct of course but you only need to look at the basic facts to see where the flaws are in the conept of the 1Ds II.

If you have one then the best glass you can hope to use with it was designed for an utterly different purpose. The amount of information that the 16mp sensor will collect and the size of the pixels themselves produce demands from that glass that it just can't deliver on.

At that level, the chip is rivaling some of the big boys of the digiback world and when you get there, you will find a host of top snappers who will tell you there are lots of large format lenses that fall short of the task. Let alone 35mm ones.

I have a 1Ds mk 1 and was offered £1000 as a trade in. £1200 for a mk 2?? It stinks, put it in for repair and it'll come up as nicked. That's only my opinion, however!!
