i would like some opinions on lighting as i know nothing about it, what is the best type to have ie continous lighting or flash ? and for what reasons ? my thoughts are continous lighting will be a lot hotter, but you see what you are getting before you take the photo ie where shadows fall, but with flash you can't see where any shadows may fall before taking the photo, i'm more than likely totally wrong here :bonk: hence your advice, also what would be a good budget lighting setup for around £200-£300 for taking family or other portraits, and those of you who take a lot of portrait shots, what lights do you use ? many thanks in advance

Go for a flash head kit instead of continuous lighting... most will come with modelling lights, so yes you will be able to see where the shadows fall. The great thing is as the modelling lights are fairly low-powered, the subjects' irises will be naturally bigger. Continuous lighting will also heat up the room more, which might also make the model uncomfortable.

If your budget is £300, look at Interfit or Bowens.

For tutorials, check the Tutorials forum, or do a quick search on the net... there are plenty of guides out there...
