Hi,

I am thinking of buying a battery grip for my 400D.

I have a couple of questions:

Is it just a battery holder or does it have a shutter button and / or the rotary dial for changing the exposure settings? Therefore making portrait photos a little easier...

Do you connect it to the 'tripod' screw hole (sorry sure there is a better work for this)? If so can you connect a tripod to the grip afterwards?

Do you have to remove the battery compartment cover from the body to connect the grip?

Thanks in advance,

Mark F

Hi I have one on my 350 (the same one I think) so...

Yes, you have the full complement of buttons that you would normally use during taking a picture ie:

Shutter release and thumb wheel, plus the * and focus point buttons, and exposure compensation.

Yes and yes....

Do you have to remove the battery compartment cover from the body to connect the grip?

Yes, but it's quite simple.

I actually took the grip off last night and the body seems ever so small without it !!

Wow thanks all for the quick replies. That certainly answers my questions.

Yes m8. but if you look it should be spring loaded on one side and simple to remove.

I'm not sure this is true of some third party grips (Annsmann, Hahnel etc).

OK, I was thinking of the Canon OEM unit. Agreed, 3rd party grips don't always have the controls on board...

Thanks for all the replies.

Just ordered the Canon grip with a 2nd Canon Battery from Amazon for less than £105 after finding a link on here whilst searching for possible answers to my original questions...
