Hi If you were selling a big ticket item like pro cameras/lens private how would you expect to be payed ? Bank transfer ,cash etc just want to be safe and not ripped off .
 
Bank transfer has always worked for me, including for some high value equipment.
 
Paypal, Bank Transfer, Cash... Not really fussed so long as I get paid.. Also might depend where your selling stuff.. i would be more liely to trust people on this forum and relaxe payment methods than on some random social media platform
 
If I was buying something on here high value and it wasn't face to face, I'd do PayPal goods and services and pay the fee myself. Seller doesn't lose out and you protect yourself.
 
The only time I did this was part exchange for a new Camera with Calumet (now Wex). They gave me £500 for the old kit so the price of the new kit was reduced by that amount.

If you are just selling to a complete stranger then either a bank transfer or Pay Pal may be safest. Probably a cheque is the least attractive.

PayPal gives you some protection if you pay the fees, but on here I've always used PP F&F or bank transfer and 'touch wood' have never had a problem.
 
On the flip side you may find that your buyer may not be happy with a Bank transfer if it is a high value item, as they will have little or no protection (pretty much), they may insist on PayPal as they have a degree of protection that way. Just a thought.
 
Some years ago a friend of mine ran a riding stable. From time to time he would need to buy or sell a horse. On one occasion he accepted a cheque but it bounced so he contacted the police. The local policeman arrived to take the details and was aghast that my friend had accepted a cheque; surely it was well understood that only cash is used for horse trading. My friend said he had been doing this for ten years and this was the first time there was a problem. Anyway he lost the money and did not accept cheques again.
