Can anyone suggest any sites that may help me with a British bird id?
I saw a gorgeous bird this evening, about the size of a Magpie, white head, aqua blue flash on its wing.
Ive never seen anything like it before so am curious as to what it may have been.
I did have the camera ... but wasnt quick enough! :embarrassed:

Sounds like a Jay, Glo. corvid family

Apart from UK safari which I gave the link to above.... the rspb website is pretty good for identification

http://www.rspb.org.uk/wildlife/birdguide/name/j/jay/index.asp

I sat and watched one about 3 feet from the car the other day,, chucking leaf litter about all over the place looking for old acorns I suspect.

Jay for sure - pretty bird!

I get the green woodpeckers here occasionally but the slightest movement near the door and theyre off..... not that I have the lens for it anyway.
Im embarrassed to say I have no clue what a cuckoo looks like .. seen a clock or two .. does that count! :bonk:

Get them in our garden , they're twitchy & difficult to get a shot of :(

One from April at Centre parcs:-

Did you say youve seen a cockortwo? (or a cockatoo!!! :naughty: :naughty: :naughty:  )

You can always rely on Janice.

We have a Jay in the garden here that can imitate a kitten crying to perfection. It had me following it for half a mile through thick undergrowth before I twigged. Visitors always fall for it too! Needless to say I tell them about it before they go too far ;)

This is one of my favourite sites, if you have an idea of the bird the sound may confirm it for you. Dawn Chorus

No need for embarrassment Glo ... ... most people wouldn't know what it sounds like if it wasn't for the old Swiss clocks ...

THERE you go anyway ... ;) ... HTH ... :D
