Question about printing

Where do you all print you pics. Do you do it yourself or do you send them away. Im askin as im going to lift my wedding album this week and i was wondering where does a professional photographer send his images to get printed if he doesnt do it himself. And is it cheaper. lol.

I think it depends where you go, what service you're wanting.

Some people send their CD's in to me and I'll order their album and assemble it for them.

I supply quite a few photographers with their prints full time, and wedding images too.

It's probably cheaper to send them off to be printed than printing yourself if you dont have pro equipment. Quality is more likely to be consistent too which is what's required in your prints....

All my two penneth of course!

Most pros will send the files away to get printed at a professional lab e.g. Loxley Colour, togsprint. Usually this is because it leaves them more time to do other things relatd to thier business. Also as LeeP says the quality and longevity of the prints from these places will far exceed what they can produce from their own photo printer as they tend to be produced in a different way (dye sublimation or digital prints on normal photographic paper). To a Pro the cost of the materials are unlikely to be a major factor to them as the value of a photographers product is much more than the cost of the materials used.

Personally I send all my stuff for printing away. I generally use Photobox for proofs / small pics e.g. 6x4, 7x5 (even 9x6) where cost is the main concern and Loxley Colour for anything final or at a large size where I am looking for consistancy and quality.
