I'm a bit miffed, to be honest :(. There will be a four-day national holiday in June to celebrate the Queen's jubilee but I retired years ago so what's in it for me? All these people off work disturbing my midweek calm, kids everywhere, noisy parties. I think I should be given a holiday to Tenerife as recompense for my loss of peace and quiet. :):):).

In busier areas I'm sure there will be a lot of photo opportunities for street parties, flag-waving and suchlike.

I feel your pain, maybe she'll bung a few quid into the pension pay-outs ...
I'll drop her an email and ask :D

Thank you so much, I'm just a poor pensioner with only a bowl of gruel for comfort :(

A mate asked where to send the bill to for the wages he has to pay with staff off.

I know what you mean - bank holidays, school holidays and weekends always give me the 'ump and keep me indoors. I don't go out much anyway, but I'll always try and avoid places with people in. They're an ill-mannered and badly behaved bunch at the best of times. :coat:

Wait until she pegs out, chaos for days on end
Just hope we don't get the collective hysteria that occurred when Diana died.

If we did, it would be a little more justified perhaps. I'm 67, she is the only monarch I have ever known and I must confess that I would miss her if she were gone, although I'm not going to go wailing through the streets though as some Diana fanciers did.

I still can't listen to the version of "Candle in the Wind" that Sir Elton did for Diana's funeral without shedding a tear, noteably because that very same week, we lost my Grandad to Cancer, I was very close to the old lad.

it would be nice if it was actually a national holiday in that everyone would have it off. Seeing as they have moved the End of May Bank holiday to form this 4 day weekend anyone in catering or retail not to mention emergancy services and Hospital staff will have little time off.

That's always been the case. My wife works in a care home and care doesn't respect Bank holidays, Easter, Christmas et al. It's nothing worth complaining about, it's just what the job is. When I was in the Air Force if my shift was Christmas Day, it was Christmas Day and that was that.

Mrs Nod always used to volunteer to work between commercialmas and new year, over easter and other unpopular times. Especially when she got double time AND time off in lieu!

Im well aware of that, I havnt had a mid year bank holiday off in 30 years. I object to the term national holiday being used when in reality around a third of the population will have to work for some or all of it.

But don't they get time off in lieu or double time?

My wife gets a bit extra but no time in lieu as it is just another day, part of her shift pattern. Same in all the care homes in which she has worked over the years, it's just the way the job is. Don't like it, don't do it, really.

Maybe so, but if you would like the time off but someone has to be there, worked in the power generation industry, it has to be manned 24/7/365, if nobody wanted to work volunteers were arranged.

The care sector's been suffering major staff shortages for years, my support workers' company's been struggling all week because all the regulars are annual leave, and I fell out with a guy who used to come towards the end of last year because sometimes I get a bit stressed and he throws a mardy if I raise my voice slightly, which adds to my stress so in no uncertain terms I told him to F off on his last shift and he ain't been back since, says he won't work with me.
