Hi all, first time im trying to print off a few photos. they are mainly sport images of friends etc. i have blown the image up in photoshop elements, saved it then gone to print it out on some canon photo paper using a pro 9000 printer, the quality is quite grainy and not crisp like i expected it to be!

any ideas? as im new i dont really know where ive gone wrong. it was taken with one of the entry level Nikon SLR cameras not mine but a friends.

advice would be greatly appreciated!

Could be a lot of things

When you enlarged the image was it a big enlargement. Not just the printed area but the whole image.

Do you know what ISO speed rating was used. Higher speed ratings can increase noise, and therefore give a "grainy" appearance

Also did you use sharpening to give the image a bit more detail. Over sharpening can cause grainy results, especially with high ISO noise

For a start no need to blow the image up probably - Printing at a lower ppi and the printer on its best dpi setting will allow you to print larger (all down to the number of pixels). Adding pixels can damage your images.

Thanks for your replies. I think considering I don't have the original image nor any details or it and the lens I'm best if forgetting the photo I had in mind. I will capture a photo of my own and try to do the same technique in elements.

Thanks for you help it's much appreciated
