Quality of Photos for Critique gone downhill??

Let me elaborate.... My point is, say myself for example, I'll shoot what I like, what interests me, I may post for critique but that's not contradicting anything.
I don't scour Flickr or 500px or any other sites and just shoot what is deemed popular.

I shoot birds - I know that they are brilliant, because I never get any "Likes" - well not many anyway:(

I did not say I scour Flickr or 500px. I said it gives me an idea which of my images the public like.
Obviously when Im shooting my family photos or personal photos I shoot them how we like them. But also in a tasteful way.

So if you post a image on 500px and people like it or comment on it etc, one particular image gets very popular and much interest this in no way indicates it is popular with the public??
It does work on algorithms, but its all to do with likes per view etc. This indicates a image that stands out and people like.
My most popular image on Flickr was an Instagram picture of my wife. It was gimmicky more than anything, certainly not a demonstration of any photographic skills. Don't confuse a picture of a good looking woman for a good photograph.

Are kitchen salesmen as bad as used car salesmen?

Worse I'd say, I've ever paid over 20k for a car not even close to it but 3 years ago I ended up spending over 20k on a bloody kitchen, including a little self indulgence of a nice large acrylic of one of my favourite photos on the wall in there

another good thread gone bad. I can't be bothered cleaning it to get it back on track so as it's Saturday, I've just finised a 5000 mile flight and I'm tired I'm closing it :)
