Attempted some 'smoke art' last night, and as a result I now have a head full of questions.

Question number #3...

I got fed up waiting for my flashgun to recycle. I probably should have changed the batteries, but the frugal side of me said 'they're not dead yet', so I didn't. Is it possible to get something like a 'mains adapter'? Would be handy for use in the house.

Depending on what flash unit you have you may be able to get an external battery pack which will help recycle times.

Doh, what a twit. Canon 580EX.

In that case you've got the option of the Canon CP-E4 or if you've got a bigger budget the Quantum range of batteries.

Thanks for the info. WIll look into this :)

The Quantum's rock actually - I borrow my mates from time to time and it gives something like a sub 1 second recharge even after a full power flash on a 580EX.

Downside is:

1) The price (including the flippin 50 quid cable to connect the battery to a Canon Speedlight!!!)

2) The weight (its a big battery, so its heavy!)

3) The chance of a firey death when its raining... *eek*

or buy some spare AA rechargeables ;)

Cheap HK exploding ones or something else? :bonk:

No he was asking about decreasing the cycle time on the flash, and as far as I know that means more oomph, which is something like the Quantum

Something else

A set of decent fully-charged AAs would do wonders for the ability of the flash to recharge, but remember, if you fire off the flash continiously (more than say 10 full power bursts in a row) you can fry it very easily...
