Hello all,

I gather that push pulling is normally done on purpose but my situation is I've shot some 200ASA film through a camera with a fixed shutter of 1/90th and an aperture of F9 the conditions were poor and If I had been able to ( using my normally successful sunny 16 rule) I would have shot at f3.5 or 5.6 . In order to try to compensate for this under exposure do I need to ask the lab to push or pull 2 stops ? The more I read on this subject the more confused I become ! I'm guessing Push two stops but am I right ?

Thanks all

You push forwards and pull back, yes?

Pushing the film speed forwards to a higher value, or pulling it back to a lower one.

Underexposure means you needed a higher film speed, so you push.

Does the first line above make it easier to remember?

I'd tell the lab what's happened and ask them to compensate then you don't have to know which is what. I find that easier. Bends my brain otherwise :)

Thanks everyone, much appreciated. Your explanation make total sense Stephen ! Unfortunately it is colour !
