Devon Camera, I'm not sure if anyone has had problems with them before but my first attempt is also my last. I feel I've just had the worst experience of internet shopping I think Ive ever had or Ill ever experience.

I've searched the internet for a selection of Cokin Filters to find only Jessops and Devon Cameras claiming they have a stock of the 8 filters I need.

So Ive ordered 4 from Deveon the others from Jessops. The reason I split the order was availabilty and price last week. Having place the order I then noted Royal Mail were going on strike. So I tried to contact Devon Cameras to change the method of shipping and the delivery address. Mistake, the telephone number for Deveon Cameras is the shop and not the warehouse. The shop cant deal with web orders nor can they transfer the call. They can only pass on messages.

I got an email last week from the "warehouse" asking me which address I wanted them delivered to. So to save any more hastle I asked them to continue with the current delivery address etc. However I didnt spot that they had changed the availability to 14 days.

Today, I chased the delivery to find they were on back order and they couldnt give me a delivery date. I commented that when I ordered them there was stock available. Upon this they cancelled my order and returned my monies without asking me.

Jessops have now received an order for the other 4 filter.

Very bad experience and sorry Devon Cameras - its a thumbs down from me.

you could have done a lot worse
at least they returned the money
I was half expecting another "money gone where's the goods saga"

not good - devon cameras :rules::bat:

Seems a bit harsh to call it your worst experience ever. Sounds very mild indeed for a "bad shopping on the net" experience.

Agreed. I thought something really terrible had happened.

I would say that is a combination of poor communications and stock control between departments, and a reflection of mildly poor service. However, the fact they agreed to fully refund your money when you canceled your order suggests they have Customer Service as a priority.

Sorry for your disappointment but I have to say this wouldn't put me off using them.

They!! .. canceled the order:shrug:

Oh ****... I misread that. Yikes... that's not good. Did they give an explanation...?

/changes mind... wouldn't use Devon Cameras now!

In the great scheme of things, I wouldn't describe this as a horror story. As others have said you got the money back. I agree they could've handled things better, but it's not disastrous by any means.

My comparison would be companies I've paid for stuff from, and which have never got in contact/gone out of business (Special Reserve spring to mind here), or charge you 100% more than they should have done for an order (a DVD supplier from a few years back, thankfully out of business now). Don't let this experience put you off.

Hi all.

Compared to my experiences so far ordering via the interweb (which goes back some considerable time) trying to purchase from Devon Cameras has got to be my worst so far. Yes I admit to misreading there return email and not noticing they actually didn't have them in stock but to have an order cancelled without my authority does infact break contract law.

Devon Cameras stink

if thats the worst internet experience ever, then you had a lucky escape.

my car was due an MOT, but needed new tyres. I bought some online for £500 and they didnt arrive. Everytime i called them they came up with some excuse. 2 months later, no tyres and no refund. So i was £500 down and couldnt put my car on the road for that time.
In the end i filed a claim against them through the small claims court, only to hear they had filed for bankruptcy, so that was a waste of £30.
£530 down and no car for a total of 3 months.

chalked it down to experience

never had a problem with them, I have actually phoned them in the past to check items were in stock before i've ordered and when I haven't phoned and stock was delayed I've always had same day responses over email. I am pretty sure i used the phone number on their webpage too under websales enquiries. Perhaps they were a bit premature cancelling your order and not telling you, if indeed that's what they did but from what i've read on camerapricebuster there seemed to be a mix up and some of it down to you :D

Yes they did reply to my complaint via CPB website but they didn't post all the emails sent and received. They only put up what they wanted but even that is somewhat misleading and doesn't give the whole picture. The telephone number given is an answer phone and I did leave a message but they didn't ring me back. That's why I rang BT's 118500 to get the shop number. This I tought would get me through but they couldn't transfer me ...... and the mess goes on.

It's a shame Devon Camera couldn't be more helpful on the day because they actually lost out on a few orders because I couldn't trust the "In Stock" statement on the website which changed to 14 days in the email which when pushed changed to they didn't know when. It was at this point they chose to cancel an order without my authority.

 to Devon Camera.

 to Speedgraphic and Jessops who came up with the goods

:wave: Devon Camera - I'll not try to do business with them again.
