I've been a bit disillusioned with Photoshop (mainly the issue where it doesn't release memory) for a while and picked up a cheap legit copy of psp9.

Interface takes a bit of getting used to again but it's faster, results are pretty much the same and I think I'll stick with it to give it a fair crack.

There's one issue really annoying me though. Images taken in portrait format (RAW or jpeg) open in landscape. I'm sure it's got to be a settings thing but can someone point me in the right direction please?

Ta :)

Hmmm...that's odd, I'd think it must be a setting... probably under File/ Preferences.

I'm using PSP7. I have PSPX but I'm not too gripped with it. What you have is the last version of PSP (9) under JASC ownership, before Corel got their meddling hands on it and introduced PSP X ... hang onto it! ;)

I've just been scouring the web looking for PSP9 downloads, and all the links now either don't work or point to Corel sites and PSPX. :bang:

I'm sure it's something daft Doddy.

Your camera may have a setting on it to 'rotate' portrait shots, there's no way pp9 (without the camera telling it) would know what orientation you have used so it assumes the long sides are top and bottom.

Was hoping you'd have a look ;) Was hoping even more you'd have an answer :p

PSP7 was pretty decent when I had the trial version. I have to say the speed/performance is just much better than PS. I can now batch about 40 images at the time instead of about 25, significant time saving.

ALready set to auto rotate Steep. Works fine in PS and RSE

I think Steep's sussed it. :)

I could never get on with Photoshop. I'm not rubbishing it at all, it's very impresssive, but I find it slow, heavy on system resources, and that Bridge browser thing is awful. It's what you get used to in the first instance I suppose.

If you use Nikon View to import your images, there's an option to allow 3rd-part software to auto-rotate images so they always appear the right-way up, regardless of whether they're portrait or landscape.
I also use the Nikon import tool to transfer all my Generic File Info to the RAW images themselves instead of to sidecar files.

Obviously this is only any good for Nikon owners.
